Room monitors
A monitor lets a room keep an eye on a Slack channel for you. When a message fits what you asked it to watch for, the room's agent posts a suggestion in the room, and you decide whether it should do the work.
Before you start
The workspace needs a Slack account connected. If it doesn't have one yet, choosing Watch a channel offers Connect Slack first, and the channel picker follows once you've signed in. The monitor reads the channel through the workspace's Slack account it was set up with. See Connecting an integration.
Set one up
- Open the room, then Room settings from the room header.
- Go to the Other tab. Under Slack channel, choose Watch a channel.
- Pick the Channel (one the connected Slack account can see) and the Agent in this room that should make suggestions.
- Under Watch for, tick what matters: Tasks and requests, Deadlines and urgent items, Problems and bugs, Customer issues, Approvals and decisions. You can also describe something else in your own words, such as "invoices that look wrong".
- Under Only when it mentions, leave Anyone, or pick a person so it only raises messages that mention them.
- Choose Watch it.
The monitor then reads the last 24 hours of the channel, and from then on picks up new messages as they arrive. Private channels work too, and are marked "private".
Everyone in the workspace can see what a monitor raises in the room.
What a suggestion looks like
When a message fits, the room shows it quoted, followed by the agent's suggestion. The agent looks in your workspace first, and if it needs something it can't find, it ends with a question. Under the suggestion:
- Work on it opens a thread and tells the agent to go ahead. If the agent asked a question, the button reads Answer instead, so you can reply first.
- Not now folds the suggestion away, with Undo.
- Never raise this kind tells the monitor to skip messages like this in future.
- Open in Slack takes you to the original message.
Once you say go ahead, the agent works as you, with your connected apps and your approval settings.
Managing a monitor
The monitor shows as a card on the Other tab, with its channel and a line summing up what it watches for. Click it to change the settings, pause it with the Watching switch, or stop watching the channel.
A monitor pauses itself, and says why in the room, if its Slack connection stops working, if the person who set it up or its agent leaves the room, if that person leaves the workspace, if the room is archived, or if it reaches its daily limit. The card tells you what to do to resume it.
Limits
- Each monitor raises at most 10 suggestions a day, and a workspace 50 in all. A daily limit resets at 00:00 UTC.
- One suggestion per Slack thread. Later messages in the same thread are added to it rather than raised again.
- Messages from bots, and very short messages, are skipped.
- Checking messages counts toward your usage, in small amounts.
