Upgrading and downgrading
You can change your plan whenever you like — up or down, monthly to annual, personal to team. The mechanics are handled by Stripe; you just pick the tier and confirm.
This article walks through the flow, what happens to your billing, and how data behaves when you move down a tier.
Where to change your plan
Open Settings → Billing. You'll see your current plan, your usage this month, and the full plan selector.
Upgrading
Click Upgrade on the tier you want.
- If this is your first paid subscription, Claos opens a Stripe-hosted checkout in a new tab. Enter card details and confirm; you return to Claos with the new plan active.
- If you're already on a paid tier and moving up, the change happens in place — Stripe updates your subscription, prorates the difference for the rest of the current period, and the new tier's limits take effect immediately.
Downgrading
Same flow, in reverse. Pick a lower tier and confirm in the dialog. Downgrade takes effect immediately — Stripe credits the unused portion of your higher tier toward the next invoice on the new plan.
Your data stays where it is. If the new tier has a lower limit than you've already used — say, you have 30 workspace members and downgrade to Starter's 20-seat cap — Claos won't delete anything. You'll see a banner about being over the limit, and you won't be able to invite new members until you're back within the cap.
Switching from monthly to annual
Toggle Yearly on the plan selector and pick your tier. Stripe prorates the move — the unused portion of your monthly subscription is credited toward the annual price, so you don't pay twice.
Switching from personal to team
Pick Team or Team Pro on the plan selector. Checkout asks for a seat count — this is the number of workspace members you want the team subscription to cover. Pay and the workspace is on a team plan. The seat count is editable later through the same flow.
When you move from a personal plan to a team plan, the personal subscription is cancelled and refunded pro-rata.
Cancelling
Cancellation lives in the Stripe Customer Portal — see Invoices and payment methods. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.
Tips and gotchas
- Stripe handles the math. You don't pay the full new amount when upgrading mid-period — only the prorated difference. Same logic applies when downgrading or switching billing periods.
- Downgrade is immediate, not end-of-period. If you want to stay on the higher tier until your current period ends, time the downgrade accordingly.
- Promo codes can be applied at checkout if Claos has issued one to you. There's no separate redeem-a-code page; enter the code in the Stripe checkout form when you upgrade.
- Team seat changes don't require a new checkout. Adjusting the seat count on an active team plan is a Stripe portal action; the price adjusts and the change syncs back to Claos.
