What this room is for
Brief
Overview
This room covers a role from the day the decision is made to open it to the new hire's first month. It spans writing the job description, screening the people who apply, running interviews that compare candidates fairly, and settling whoever is hired into the job. A job description has to say something specific about the role, since generic ones attract generic applicants. Screening and interviewing are fair when every candidate is held to the same bar, which is what makes a comparison meaningful. Onboarding closes the loop, and a plan built for the particular role and person does more than one reused from the last hire.
Key topics
- Role definition: what the role is for and how the job description presents it.
- Screening: reading applications against the role and deciding who moves forward.
- Interviews: structuring interviews so candidates are compared on the same terms.
- Candidate communication: the outreach, updates and declines sent to candidates along the way.
- Onboarding: settling a new hire into the job during their first month.
