What this room is for
Brief
Overview
This room covers how people find a software product, start using it and stay. It spans the experiments worth running, the points in the funnel where people fall away, the launches that bring them in, and the picture of who the product is really for. Experiments only teach something when they start from a clear hypothesis and run long enough to be read. The picture of the ideal customer drifts over time, and a stale one quietly misdirects everything built on it. Churn belongs here too, since the signals that someone is about to leave tend to arrive later than they would be useful.
Key topics
- Experiments: which tests are worth running, what each is meant to show and what came of it.
- Funnel and activation: where people drop off between signing up and getting value.
- Launches: bringing a new feature to market and reading how it did afterwards.
- Ideal customer profile: who the product is really for and how that picture is changing.
- Retention and churn: why customers leave and the signals that come before it.
